Inspired by the beautiful movement of water ripples during golden hour, this statement piece is an exploration of light, warmth and the fleeting moments we wish we could hold onto a little longer.
Rather than trying to capture the water realistically, I've taken a more abstract approach, using layers of paint, shimmering gold leaf and reflective resin to explore the way golden light dances across the surface. The painting changes beautifully depending on how the light falls across it, with the gold catching and reflecting the light in different ways throughout the day.
For me, this painting is about capturing the feeling of golden hour and making it everlasting. That beautiful moment when the light catches the water, everything seems to slow down, and we're reminded to pause and appreciate the beauty around us.
Original Mixed Media Artwork
Created using layers of acrylic paint and imitation gold metal leaf, this piece is finished with a luxurious resin topcoat, providing a smooth, glass-like shine.
The gold leaf is carefully applied by hand in sheets before the painting is created over it. As a result, subtle join lines may be visible beneath the paint in some areas. These are a natural characteristic of the gilding process and their visibility can vary depending on the lighting and viewing angle.
Displaying Your Artwork
The painting will change beautifully throughout the day as the light moves across its surface. The reflective gold leaf and glossy resin mean that the painting can look quite different depending on the light, with highlights and glimmers catching the light differently from moment to moment.
For this reason, I recommend displaying the artwork in a well-lit area where you can enjoy the changing light and reflective qualities of the piece. A wall opposite a window can work particularly well, allowing the natural light to bring the painting to life throughout the day. As with all original artwork, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided to help protect the painting from UV damage.
